When Should a DSE Assessment Be Carried Out?

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments should be reviewed regularly—not just once. A good rule of thumb is to carry one out at least annually, or sooner if there are changes.

Key Times to Review a DSE Assessment:

  • Annually – A yearly check helps keep workstations safe and comfortable.

  • Workstation Changes – New equipment, furniture, or layout? Time for a new assessment.

  • Changes in Personal Circumstances – If someone is pregnant, recovering from injury, or has other new needs, a review is important.

  • New Starters – Anyone starting a role involving screen work should have an assessment early on.

  • If Concerns Are Raised – If a team member reports discomfort or issues, don’t delay a review.

  • Remote & Hybrid Workers – Workstations at home or off-site should also meet safe working standards.

DSE assessments are an ongoing part of maintaining a safe and healthy working environment—for everyone, everywhere.
